Hey everyone, thanks for all of the replies on the post I made yesterday.
The advice I saw the most was “get him out of the hospital, bring him home, give him love and let nature do its thing”.
That’s what makes the most sense to me. They’re not even actually doing anything for him while he’s at the hospital, so it’s not like leaving him there benefits him in any way. He just gets REALLY stressed out whenever going to the vet, so I called the hospital and spoke to the doctor. She wants to keep him, but I suspect it’s because of the money that would entail.
His condition doesn’t cause him severe pain or suffering- he just doesn’t feel great. The natural end of a life.
So, I’m going to go get him before he has to get too much more stressed out. Going to do my best to make him comfortable and happy for as long as he has left.
Thanks for all of the replies, I got 60-some comments on my first post, made in the grips of despair.
If he deteriorates while home, I’m going to have a house call made to have a vet come by and provide euthanasia. It’s going to gut me, but at least I’ll know I gave him the best final days he could’ve had instead of leaving him to be poked and held down and shit at the hospital.
