Result:

No crushing postwar guilt trip.

No endless moral lectures.

They can have their own independent nuclear weapons (Force de Frappe) and today can pretty much do whatever they want on the world stage.

Meanwhile Germany, Italy, and Japan fully exposed, got destroyed, and spent decades as geopolitical eunuchs who still apologize for existing.

Surrendering might have been the ultimate strategic flex.
