Good morning. At one of the places I work, there is a small patch of land that is the perfect spot for a garden and place to chill. It was slow last week so I went out to start clearing weeds since it’s not a huge patch. One of my colleagues, without saying anything, came out to help me. Together, we cleared the entire area.

I went to the store and picked up some pavers and mulch. All in all, I spent just under a couple hundred bucks but pretty soon, we’ll have a nice spot to sit down and take breaks. We kept a few of the plants. I’ll plant some herbs next Spring. I’m not asking permission from the owner, I’m just going to do it as a surprise gift to him. He’s old and wants to retire and would be delighted to see a young person who actually gives a hoot.

For a moment, I was on the fence about it: “Why should I spend my own money to beautify someone else’s property?” But then I rationalized: Because if everyone cared as much as I did, the world would be a beautiful place. And if you look at photos of Europe, you can see the beauty and the care that our ancestors put into the old cities and towns. Plus, I have to look at this patch every day I work.
