My husband has a casual friend at work that is pretty conservative and they like discussing politics often. The guy is quite a bit older than us and has a daughter that just graduated college and is in her early twenties. I met her once and she’s beautiful. Very petite, blonde hair and blue eyes. Well apparently she decided she wants to be a firefighter. She applied to several fire departments in our general area and only one hired her. I am fuzzy on the exact details but I guess there is some sort of six month boot camp style training they go through that is very rigorous and you get kicked out if you fail a certain number of tasks.

She told her parents she was the only female in the entire group and they made it clear they did not want her there. She claimed they borderline sexually harassed her, would not sit with her or talk to her and bullied her. At the end of it all, she was fired. They are considering threatening legal action but are worried this will impact her getting hired by another fire department.

This whole story just annoys the hell out of me. Women have no business being firefighters. I don’t blame the other men a bit for resenting her. They know they’ll have to pick up the slack for her on the job. There’s no way this 110 lb woman can be competent at this career. It’s absurd. Imagine dying in a fire because she can’t lift a 100lbs.

The wildest part is that all these so called conservatives don’t even think about this being an issue. They call themselves conservatives yet they raised a daughter with that “girls can do anything boys can do” attitude and then act shocked at consequences in the real world. I’m already having conversations with my daughter about these things.
