You can just tell on a rewatch that they expected the actor to actually grow up to be a normal sized man. He is getting into fights, is on the football team, has anger issues and is confrontational. His character was literally something the actor was supposed to grow into once he hit his fat kid in high-school growth spurt, but he never did, and they had to re-write his arc into a depressed “I hate my son” sack of shit.
