Nationalism seems to be a self-destructive ideology, which not only fails to make long-term allies, but de facto motivates other countries to treat you with distrust at best, hostility at worst. Instead of promoting cooperation and the idea of mutually beneficial coexistence, nationalism attempts to make relations between nations a zero-sum game where each one has to always strive to subdue everyone else. And this is precisely why it always ends up losing - you do not stand much chance when you limit yourself to working only with a limited number of people instead of adopting a more far-reaching ideology that can establish a consensus among a bigger pool of humans. Not even nationalists themselves, despite sharing the same ideology, can find a common ground. Some German nationalism will always be detrimental to Polish nationalism. British nationalism will always be a threat to Scottish nationalism and so forth and so on. Nationalism by design pits its own adepts against each other. This board is a perfect example of it - despite most people here sharing the same views, their favourite past-time is bickering among each other for mundane reasons. If even on a forum with no real stakes nationalists cannot find peace, how can one expect them to do this on a wider scale?
